Paviland Cave necklace

Paviland Cave is  situated on the South Gower Coast near the village of Pitton. The cave today faces South, located high above the limestone rocks. The view from inside the cave looks out over the crashing waves and currents of the Bristol Channel from Gower to North Devon. The caves entrance is teardrop shaped which Pa-pa has captured in this unusual and one-off design in solid gold plated silver. 

The cave is famous for being the most significant archaeological site in Britain of the earlier Upper Palaeolithic period. The discovery in 1893 of bones dyed with red ochre thought at the time to be that of  a lady-the archeologists named her the Red Lady of Paviland. The bones were taken to Oxfordshire and were dated to 29,000 BC. Next to the bones were shell beads, flints, animal bones, shells and worked ivory thought to be the jewellery of the hunter gatherer.
